History & Purpose

The Alliance of Coastal Marin Villages, or ACMV, was established in 2017 with the help of our District 4 Supervisor and State Senator as a forum for addressing issues shared by all the villages in coastal West Marin.  By bringing together representatives nominated by each of our respective village associations or other responsible bodies, we act as an efficient nexus for communications and problem solving between Marin County, the State of California, and West Marin's villagers.

Our mission:  To identify, address and communicate on relevant and common issues, and needs of the West Marin Coastal villages to County, State and Federal agencies and Marin communities

Our Process

01. Representative Nomination
02. Shared Issue Identification
03. Communication and Advocacy

Residents of each village nominate through their Village Association, Public Utility, and/or other formal associations qualified individual(s) as ACMV representative who commit to serve as a primary point of communication with each of the other nine villages.

ACMV representatives discuss issues with their associations and bring them to ACMV meetings.  If all representatives agree that an issue - for instance traffic problems or pending ordinances - truly have universal impact, then these can be taken up by the Alliance.

ACMV representatives meet together -  and regularly with the District 4 Supervisor and/or staff - to find common solutions for or opportunities in shared issues.  ACMV reps act both as a conduit for Marin County to efficiently disseminate information to all the coastal villages,  and as needed in turn advocate with the County and/or State on issues of shared concern.

Sample Issues

While not a comprehensive list, issues the ACMV has worked on in the past - and in several cases currently works on - include:

  • Traffic and other Visitor-Serving Problems

  • Community Plans and preservation of unique village character

  • Highway One maintenance and future threats from sea level rise

  • Marin County's Local Coastal Program

  • Dark Skies
